Great news for restaurant connoisseurs and television junkies:

Facebook has now created new facebook marketing, a way for you to plan a dinner and movie night directly from your mobile phone.

In an attempt to encourage users to spend more time on Facebook, the social media site rolled out these two new features at the end of last week. We took a look and think it’s pretty impressive, so we thought we’d share the news!

Restaurants

Facebook users will now have the convenience of making a reservation directly from Facebook, following integration with real-time restaurant reservation service Open Table, which will be featured on restaurant business pages.

Users can now quickly make reservations to over 20,000 restaurants served by Open Table without requiring users to be an Open Table member or leave the Facebook mobile app.

The service will be located below the address and hours of operation and above the customers reviews on all participating restaurants’ Facebook pages. Much like the Open Table website, users will be able to set a date, time, and party size directly from the Facebook page.

TV and Movies

For iOS users who enjoy visiting the Facebook pages of their favorite primetime TV shows and movies, access to TV listings very similar to those found via cable guides, satellite sets, and newspapers and magazines will be available to view.

Listings will be based on users’ time zones and will include channel name, air time, and description.

Other mobile updates for the Facebook app include:

  • Hashtags will now be searchable on iOS devices.
  • iPad users will see faster load time and a more slick design.
  • A bug that caused some users to see red notification alerts when they didn’t have any pending notifications has been resolved.
  • Newsfeed “Story bumping” feature that allows better visibility for popular posts not yet seen by users.
  • Enabled secure browsing for all users.
  • Facebook will reportedly launch video ads in news feeds beginning this fall.

“Millions of people are visiting TV and movie Pages on Facebook every day, especially on mobile,” Facebook said. “Providing listings information on Facebook offers timely and relevant information about the media content people care about most.”

Facebook is hoping to increase traffic and make pages useful for businesses and their customers. For those who visit Facebook, they’ll now enjoy the interactive usability that can be found on local-based social platforms such as Yelp and Google. With these two new features, they might be able to accomplish just that.
