Fall is officially in full-swing which means one thing to marketers: time to prepare for the upcoming holiday season!  Things may seem quiet now, but once Halloween hits your business will soon be scrambling to prepare for Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the holidays – that is, unless you are prepared.

1. Plan What You’re Going to Promote

Have an item that you think is going to be a big seller this year, or a product that you want to turn into a best seller?  Or perhaps your customers have a beloved product that you know will be on their wish lists and on the wish lists of others this holiday season.

Before you start creating marketing campaigns, figure out what it is you are going to promote and how you are going to promote it.  You may have a big ticket item like a hot tech gadget, or you may have stocking stuffers like a scarf or a gift card.  Whatever it is, now is the time to start building up an arsenal of promotional holiday content including:

  • Blog posts
  • Google ads
  • Facebook ads and posts
  • Email campaigns
  • Landing pages
  • Holiday-themed offers related to the products you are planning to push

2. Do Some Digital Housekeeping

Now is a great time to clean up your email lists so that you can get a more accurate depiction of how effective your holiday campaign is going to be (and – bonus! – it can reduce the cost of your email service subscription).

  • Remove users who are non-responsive or who do not open their emails
  • Segment your audience based on past purchases to deliver highly targeted messages to your leads
  • Create custom audiences from your email lists and use this information to deliver targeted ads on social media to boost your visibility and reach

3. Review Last Years’ Results

Pay attention to which campaigns worked for your brand in previous years and which platforms were the most effective.  This will help you determine where you should be focusing the bulk of your marketing budget and efforts.

Look at where you had an increase in sales and consider adding some campaigns into the mix to boost conversions during your slower periods.  Consider reaching out to a digital media marketing firm as well for some fresh ideas and information on the newest and most effective marketing tools available.
