Among the several new products and plans Executive Marissa Mayer went on stage yesterday to unveil at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, there were two standout features that just may forever change the way you read news on the web and on your mobile phone.

Yahoo News Digest

Yahoo News Digest is a new app that editorially curates news twice a day. The app summarizes the top stories you need to know by pulling from the multiple news sources, which could include bits of article text, video, images, maps, even tweets from around the web. With Yahoo’s ultimate goal to, “give users a daily source of news that they are missing today,” the result is a simple way to read what you need to know without having to sift through multiple pages to find out what’s happening.

The app, which plans to update at 8am and 6pm U.S. local time every day, is set to feature five to 10 stories, depending on what is circulating online that day. All the featured stories will be aggregated by algorithms that find and link back to the original content.

The app is currently only available on iPhone or iPad, but will soon be available on Android once the company receives feedback about the new feature.

Yahoo Digital Magazines

Another product to note is Yahoo Digital Magazines, which will update Yahoo’s food and tech sites to feature more visual layouts and organizes articles and videos as tiles. Users can click on these tiles to expand the article and read without loading a new page. Within these articles will be full-screen magazine-style ads, with the exception of Yahoo Tech, which will have daily columnists and no display ads.

Both new tools are clever ways that we think could forever change the way people take in online content. With online and social interaction becoming more contextual everyday, this is a big move for the company and we see the features picking up popularity in the near future. Yahoo has finally figured out how to organize the web and make it simple and more appealing for users, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what’s to come.
