WhatsApp is a giant amongst messaging apps for smartphones. As of February 2020, the Facebook-owned app was reported to have 2 billion monthly active users. That’s both a lot of users and a bevy of potential for business. The introduction of WhatsApp Carts provides a new wealth of opportunity for small businesses to capitalize on the app’s popularity.

For e-commerce or business purposes, WhatsApp has already had some measure of success. Over 5 million companies used WhatsApp Business for their communication with their customers at the start of 2019.

You’d think the numbers would be much higher. However, unlike business use by other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, WhatsApp hasn’t yet had as much success in that department.

Latest Business Move by WhatsApp

With the number of users recorded by WhatsApp, the creators probably figured they would be better off maximizing its potential. On that note, they’ve added ‘Carts’ to WhatsApp.

This feature comes ahead of the holiday shopping frenzy; it couldn’t have come at a better time.

WhatsApp Business Carts

According to WhatsApp:

Starting today, we are excited to bring carts to WhatsApp. Carts are great for messaging businesses that typically sell multiple items at once, like a local restaurant or clothing store. With carts, people can browse a catalog, select multiple products, and send the order as one message to the business. This will make it simpler for businesses to keep track of order inquiries, manage requests from customers, and close sales.”

It’s that easy to use.

How to use WhatsApp carts

  • Open the app and go through your chats or business profile to find the desired business.
  • There will be a shopping button icon listed close to its name. Tap on this button to access its product catalog.
  • Browse through the catalog and tap on the products you like to add to the cart.
  • Send your filled cart to the seller as a WhatsApp message.

It’s as easy as that!

If you need to contact the seller for any reason, you can still send the message across to them directly through the app.

Other business-centered features by WhatsApp

To build on WhatsApp’s e-commerce potential and maximize it, the creators have got big plans for the platform. This is mostly through the development of e-commerce tools within the app.

They also intend to provide options for businesses to manage WhatsApp messages better via Facebook hosting services.

WhatsApp has got big plans for small businesses, and they are poised to continue their growth in the sector.
