Here’s another Facebook update that reminds you that little details are everything when it comes to posting and captivating your audiences on social networks. Facebook announced yesterday about a couple of changes it’s making to the way text status updates are seen on the site’s News Feed.

According to the update, Facebook found that people don’t generally like interacting with text status updates from companies as much as they like text status updates from friends, so the company decided that it would be demoting these types of status updates made by companies from the News Feed.

This means that:

Other status updates may or may not get more promotion on the News Feed

Not sure what this means and Facebook wasn’t too detailed on what types of other status updates will be seeing more traction now that they’re pushing down text posts. We’ll keep you updated, but here’s all that Facebook had to say about it:

“Many Page owners often ask what kind of content they should post. This is difficult to answer, as it depends on who your audience is and what they want to see.”

…Thanks, Facebook…

Secondly, Facebook is highly recommending posts called link-share updates

There are two ways to publish this type of post, here’s the first way:

Here’s the second way:

Facebook says they see more engagement with the second type, mentioning that they provide a “more visual and compelling experience for people seeing them in feeds”. Additionally, the second type of post has good metadata to support it, which is great for ranking content in search engines (we’re just saying…).

It’s all super nitpicky of Facebook, but in general, posts with images seem to almost always get better engagement from users. We recommend incorporating the same practices to other social media networks to stay ahead of the curve.

When creating posts that include links, make it a habit to 1. Include an image and 2. Add meta descriptions and tags to your content. And if you’re using a social media management tool, test your posts to see if they are posting effectively.

Who knows when or what the next Facebook or social media update will be tomorrow, but make sure you’re creating your own quality content with blog posts, marketing offers, video, and landing pages. This helps strengthen your total web presence and keeps you afloat no matter what changing tides come your way.
